DUSHANBE, October 10, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan was represented by two movies in the 3 rd International Eurasian Film Festival in Almaty: “Ovora” (The Rover) by Gulandom Muhabbatova and Daler Rahmatov and “Calendar of Expectations” by Safarbek Soliyev.
The festival, suggested by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Culture and Information and organized by the Kazakh Cinematographer’ Union and Kazakhfilm, was held from September 25 to October 1 with its usual motto is “For a united cinematography.”
For lack of financing, Tajik filmmakers shot their films by video and therefore they competed in the Central Asian Panorama section, in which full-length films shot by video might also be presented.
According to the Tajik Cinematographers’ Union, “Ovora” has received two awards: special prize of the festival’s jury and award for the best female role handed over to Tajik known actress Fotima Ghulomva.
”Ovora,” shown on September 26, is a film about a Tajik boy named Abdullo. His grandmother and blind grandfather bring him up. When the time comes for his circumcision, things begin to happen for Abdullo and the whole village…
The festival’s program furthered the concept of the second Eurasia festival, which was intended to be a cultural bridge between eastern and western cultures.
