DUSHANBE, May 27, Asia-Plus – To-date, four Tajik athletes have qualified and got selected for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games that will take place in Nanjing (China) in August this year.
Mehrangez Nazarova qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic games, finishing third in women’s 3000m race in a qualification tournament in Bangkok, Thailand. She also won bronze in women’s 2000m hurdles race.
Besides, three Tajik wrestlers – Firouz Yoqubov (men’s freestyle wrestling, 100kg), Tohirjon Okhounov (men’s Greco-Roman wrestling, 85kg) and Ravzatullo Isoyev (men’s freestyle wrestling, 42 kg) – have qualified and got selected for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
Firouz Yoqubov won gold medal, Tohirjon Okhounov won silver medal and Ravzatullo Isoyev won bronze medal in the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championships that took place in Bangkok.
The 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games (officially known as II Summer Youth Olympic Games) is the second Summer Youth Olympic Games, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, due to be held from August 16 to August 28, 2014 in Nanjing, People''s Republic of China.
The International Olympic Committee established Youth Olympic Games in July 2007. The 2014 host city was elected on 10 February 2010, during the 2010 IOC Session in Vancouver. This was the first election of a Youth Olympic Games host city held in an IOC Session. The elections for the host cities of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and 2012 Winter Youth Olympics were done through postal votes by IOC members.
222 events are expected to be held over the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing.
