"These are very important competitions for Tajik para-athletes, but over the past qualifying period none of them has been able to meet the required standard for participation in the Paralympics in Paris," Alimov said.
In order to get to the 2024 Paralympic Games, it was important to take certain positions in the world ranking in various sports. To do this, the para-athlete had to compete in world competitions during the qualifying stage and score points in the ranking.
"The number of such starts in Tajikistan was small, so it was not possible to win licenses. Due to lack of financial resources, the parathletes were unable to perform at many important tournaments," he added.
It should be noted that Tajikistan took part in the Paralympic Games for the first time in 2004 – in Athens.
Up to and including 1992, Tajik athletes participated in the Paralympics as part of the USSR national team (in 1988) and the United Team of the former Soviet Republics (in 1992). To date, Tajikistan's athletes have not won a single medal at the Para Games.
According to the results of the licensed tournaments, only one athlete from Tajikistan was selected for the last Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo. He became Akmal Kodirov in athletics competitions (in the shot put). At the same time, Kodirov is an arm wrestler, but he received admission to the 2020 Para–Games in athletics. In the F63 class shot put, Akmal took ninth place with a score of 8.44 m.
At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Tajikistan was also represented by one athlete, Rakhmihudo Dodihudoev, in the 100 m and 400 m running.
At the 2012 Paralympics, only one athlete from Tajikistan also won the right to participate – Parviz Odinaev (bench press) in the 75 kg weight category.
Two powerlifting athletes from Tajikistan went to the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008 – Zaituna Rozikova (48 kg) and Khairullo Abdurakhimov (67.5 kg). Rozikova took ninth place, and Abdurakhimov was unable to perform for health reasons.
And at the 2004 Para Games, only Parviz Odinaev (bench press) performed from Tajikistan, in Athens he became the ninth in the 60 kg weight category.
