DUSHANBE , February 7, Asia-Plus -- Residents of the Uzbekjar village in Asht district of Sughd will not experience problems with electric power any more as a new transformer has been established in the village.    

According to information from the Mercy Corps field office in Khujand, it has been installed within the framework of implementation of the infrastructure project “Uzbekjar Village Electricity Supply Rehabilitation”, which has become possible due to the “Peaceful Community Initiatives” program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to Sodirkhon Rahimov, member of the local initiative group, shortage of electricity was the main problem facing this village.  “The transformer was installed 40 years ago and lately, its capacity has not been enough to meet the village’s growing electric power, especially in the winter period.    

Information  of Asia-Plus: Mercy Corps works with six local partners to improve living conditions and reduce the potential for conflict in the Ferghana Valley by building trust within and among multiethnic communities, establishing safe and open mechanisms for ongoing dialogue and providing training and resources for implementing real solutions to every day problems. The Peaceful Community Initiative has thus far empowered 51 cross-border and multiethnic communities to identify and address sources of conflict through constructive dialogue and action planning.
