KONIBODOM, April 5, Asia-Plus - On Tuesday March 4, Konibodom Mayor, Emin Sanginov submitted for consideration to Ms. Teresa Morgan, Pol/Econ Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, four projects aimed at rehabilitation of water and electricity supply systems as well as organization of capillary irrigation of apricot orchards in the district.

According to information from Konibodom mayoral press service, in the course of the talks Sanginov briefed U.S. diplomat on the present socioeconomic state in the districts, ongoing reforms aimed at democratization of society and solution of social problems facing local population as well as on cooperation of local authorities with international organizations.  

During the meeting it was noted that the projects provided for construction of a new water-intake facility, installation of a 7.5-kilometer pipeline for providing the population with safe drinking water as well as making the power-transmission line for receiving electric power from the south of the country as well as organization of irrigation of more than 3,000 hectares of apricot orchards in the district.  

Besides, the Konibodom mayor stressed that construction of riverbank protection works on the Syrdaryo River under the WB-sponsored “Management of Water Resources in Ferghana Valley ” would allow developing more than 1,000 hectares of lands fit for cultivation of agricultural crops.  

Ms. Morgan, for her part, noted that she would hand over the proposed projects for consideration to the United States Agency for International Development, according to the mayoral press service.
