DUSHANBE , April 11, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan has raised electricity rates again.

Davlatnazar Qurbonov, head of the natural monopolies within the Tajik Anti-Monopoly Committee, says that on April 1, the government passed a resolution determining new electricity rates for electricity used in excess of 250 kWh they will pay at the rate of 0.27 Somoni per one kWh of electric power.

According to him, the resolution was passed for the purpose of promoting rational consumption of electricity by the public.

“At the beginning of the year, a single electricity rate determined at 0.16 Somoni per one KWh was introduced in the country but after the lapse of three months specialists came to a conclusion that the public is using electricity irrationally and therefore such a move was taken,” Qurbonov said.
