Third Tajik-Afghan bridge to be put into exploitation in Gorno Badakhshan in late May

KHOROG, April 20, Asia-Plus - Reconstruction of a bridge across the Panj River in the Ishkashim district of Gorno Badakhshan will be completed in late May this year, Asia-Plus has learned from Ghulomali Bahromov, deputy head of the “Pomirnaqliyot” (GBAO transportation) enterprise.
According to him, the main assembling and welding works on the two of three spans of a 98-meter bridge and its steel surfacing.
A government working group led by Deputy Prime Minister Asadullo Ghulomov recently visited the bridge.
The project on reconstruction of the Tajik-Afghan bridge across the
Panj
River
have been implemented under financial support of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) that provided 350,000 U.S. dollars for this project. It is already the third of five bridges across the
Panj
River
in Gorno Badakhshan that will consolidate permanent overland links between
Tajikistan
and
Afghanistan
. The first two bridge have been built in Khorog and near the
village
of
Ruzvai
in the Darvoz district.
The working group also familiarized itself with a progress of reconstruction of a
central park
in Khorog and preparation of site for the construction of campus of the University of Central Asia (UCA) in Khorog. UCA is constructing campuses at
Khorog
,
Tajikistan
,
Tekeli
,
Kazakhstan
, and
Naryn
,
Kyrgyzstan
. Facilities will include classrooms, dormitories for a residential undergraduate program and the various graduate institutes comprising the
School
of
Development
. These divisions will open when facilities are completed over the coming years.
