Tajik defense minister leaves for China to attend SCO defense ministers’ meeting

DUSAHNBE, April 24, Asia-Plus - A Tajik military delegation led by Defense Minister Sherali Khairulloyev today left for
China
to attend a session of the council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) defense ministers that will be held in
Beijing
on April 26.
According to information from the Tajik Ministry of Defense (MoD), the SCO defense ministers’ meeting in
Beijing
is aiming to focus on issues related to providing security in the region and crisis connected with Iranian nuclear program.
The session is also discussing issues of addressing new challenges – terrorism and extremism, according to the MoD source.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization groups
Chine

Russia
, and four
Central Asia
’s states –
Kazakhstan
,
Kyrgyzstan
,
Tajikistan
and
Uzbekistan
.
Mongolia
,
Pakistan
,
India
and
Iran
have status of observers at the Organization.
But at meeting in
Beijing
, only member nations of the SCO will take part.
