Uzbekistan
has created serious problems for development of
Tajikistan
’s rail communication, impeding the work of Tajik Railways, Amonullo Hukumov, head of the Tajik Railways, remarked at a news conference in
Dushanbe
on April 25.
“At all meetings of heads of railways from the CIS states, we are considering issues related to launching new rail routes, and all countries of the former Soviet Union, except Uzbekistan, are supporting launch of new rail routes from Tajikistan,” Hukumov said.
According to him, policy of Uzbek counterparts is aimed at impeding development of railways in
Tajikistan
and hindering work of Tajik railways administration. “The problems that existed in the previous, particularly transit of passenger and cargoes via the
Uzbekistan
’s territory, remain,” Hukumov said, adding that those problems could be solved only in case of political will of
Uzbekistan
