, May 5,A Asia-Plus – Agentstvo Mir Novostei – Tajikistan has turned down the plan of privatization of its aluminum plant (TadAZ), the only aluminum smelter in Central Asia .

The Russian “Agentstvo Mir Novostei” news agency reports Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov remarked this in the Kazakh capital city of Astana today.   

“We are not going to privatize it [Tajik Aluminum Plant or TadAZ]…The question is not of privatization,” President Rahmonov told journalists in Astana following his meeting with Kazakh President Nazarbayev, according to “Agentstvo Mir Novostei”.  

Russia ’s aluminum giants such “Russian Aluminum” RusAl and SUAL (North-Ural Aluminum) have shown interest in participation in the privatization of TadAZ 

According to President Rahmonov, TadAZ is supposed to have produced 420,000 tons of aluminum this year.  Tajik aluminum smelter last year produced 379,630 tons of aluminum.
