DUSHANBE , June 30, Asia-Plus - In new academic year, payments for studying at Tajikistan ’s higher educational institutions on contractual basis will be from US$200 to US$800.  

Nuriddin Saidov, the head of the department for higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Education, the Council of Rectors jointly with the Education Ministry adopted such a decision and it was coordinated with the Antimonopoly Committee.  

“This decision has been made for the purpose of regulating payments with regard to economic opportunities of citizens,” said Mr. Saidov, “Besides, the rates have been determined on the basis of analysis of expenditures in a process of studying.”  Earlier, in some higher educational institutions in the republic, the rate of payments for studying on the contractual basis reached US$1,000 a year, according to him.

“Now, by ruling given by the country’s antimonopoly agency the annual payments for studying on the contractual basis should not exceed US$800,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor said.  

According to Nuriddin Saidov, studying at institutions on humanities and pedagogical disciplines will cost from US$200 to US$300 a year.   “While, in faculties, where a large number of contenders is to be observed, the payments will be established at the rates from US$500 to US$800,” Mr. Saidov said.   

Nuridddin Saidov has stressed that the institutions’ administrations have the right to establish the payment rates by themselves.   

“Annually, from 22,000 to 25,000 students enter higher educational institutions in Tajikistan ,” Nuriddin Saidov said, noting that more than 30,000 pupils annually finish secondary schools in the republic.
