DUSHANBE, August 9, Asia-Plus - A large amount of heroin has been detained in the northern province of Sughd, according to infromation from the Interior Ministry’s department for combating drug trafficking (drug police).

The source says officers at traffic police checkpoint Digmay in the Jabborrasulov district of Sughd yesterday stopped a heavy truck “KAMAZ” for control.  When searching the truck traffic police officers discovered 18 packages containing some 18 kilograms of heroin.  The driver, a 39-year-old resident of the Roshtqala district of Gorno Badakhshan Saidmamad Qishqorov, and his 34-yearold brother Davlatmamad were arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.  Investigation is under way.  

According to information from the Ministry of Interior (MoI), Tajik traffic police have intercepted more than 53 kilograms of drugs, with 46 kilograms of them being heroin, since the beginning of the year.
