DUSHANBE, September 20, Asia-Plus - Over the first seven months of this year, banks in Tajikistan have provided more than 900 million somonis in loans to the population, press service of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) reported.  

A source in the Tajik central bank said that compared to the same period of last year, when 603 million somonis in loans were provided to the population, the index of the volume of loans provided had amounted to 149 percent.     

He added that over the same seven-month period, the sum of loans repaid by clients has amounted to 730 million somonis.  

”Today the remaining of loans for a total amount of 1.491 billion somonis, taking into account the previous year, is in circulation in the country,” the source said.  

According to the NBT, the interest rate on loans depends on terms of agreements.  “In January-July this year, loans in foreign currencies have been provided at 20%-24% annual interest, and in national currencies at 22%-25% annual interest,” the source said, adding that nine banks operating in the country provides loans to small and medium-sized businesses.

“Besides these traditional types of loans, Tajik banks are expanding items of service they render, responding to demands of clients, including car crediting, education loans, seasonal loans and mortgage crediting,” the source stressed.
