DUSHANBE, November 3, Asia-Plus // -- Bad weather conditions may seriously affect a progress of cotton harvesting campaign in Tajikistan, Qodir Qosimov, Deputy Agriculture Minister, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“Meteorologists expect that it will be raining in the coming two days,” the deputy minister said. According to him, at present Tajikistan is yielding up to 1,482 tons of cotton per day, which is 0.3 percent of the national target. “During the rainy days, the daily rate will drop to 0.1 percent,” Qosimov said.
According to him, districts subordinate to the center (central Tajikistan) have yielded 48,188 tons of cotton by November 9, over-fulfilling their target of 46,700 tons of cotton by 3.2 percent.
Cotton growers in Khatlon have yielded 254,200 tons of cotton to this day, which is 77.3 percent of the targeted 329,000 tons.
The northern province of Sughd has pledged to produce 171,300 tons of cotton this year. Sughd has gathered 130,900 tons of cotton by November 9, which is 76.4 percent of the target.
The republic has yielded 433,300 tons of cotton by November 9, which comprises 79.2 percent of this year’s target determined at 547,000 tons of cotton.
