DUSHANBE, November 22, Asia-Plus - Mobile unit of the counternarcotics agency has warded off an attempt of drug pushing in Dushanbe.
A source at the Drug Control Agency (DCA) said that their mobile unit yesterday stopped a Volga sedan in the Firdavsi district of Dushanbe. When searching the car the drug control officers found two packets containing nearly 10 kilograms of marijuana. The drugs belonged to the passenger, a 19-year-old student from Tajik National University A. Ahrorov, according to the source.
The student was arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him; investigation is under way.
The country’s counternarcotics agency has intercepted more than 1,226 kilograms of drugs, with nearly 446 kilograms of them being heroin, over the past ten months.
We will recall that DCA formed its mobile antinarcotics units in October last year and they were deployed mainly along the border with Afghanistan.
