DUSHANBE, December 4, Asia-Plus - A state duty on imported transport vehicles averages US$150.00, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC).
A source at a MoTC said that the number of vehicles imported to Tajikistan from China via Kulma pass had increased. “Since the beginning of the year alone, entrepreneurs have delivered to Tajikistan 1,700 cars and minivans of small-cylinder capacity from China via the Kulma pass on the Tajik-Chinese border in Gorno Badakhshan,” the source said, noting that the price of one car of small-cylinder capacity is on average US$3,000.
According to the Customs Service, under agreement between Tajikistan and China the crossing point on the Kulma pass is closed in the winter period. “This regime of crossing’s activity is observed strictly, but when a flow of vehicles increases it may change,” the customs service source said. This year, the crossing’s activity lasted though November, according to the source.
Compared to 2005 commodity circulation between Tajikistan and China via the Kulma pass has increased from 5,600 tons to 9,200 tons, the customs service source said.
