DUSHANBE, December 5, - The Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) has increased the generation of daily electrical power to more than 30 million kWh, Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding said.  The Barqi Tojik source said that at present four of nine generators are operational.  “It is connected with a decline in the water level in the reservoir powering the Norak HSP,” the source said, noting that the water level was lowered in connection with the upcoming construction of a new dam on the Vakhsh River for Sangtuda-1 power plant.

“From late November to December 4, only three generators of the Norak HSP functioned that resulted in the generation of daily electricity being reduced from 46 million kWh to 25 million kWh, and the fourth one was launched just yesterday,” the source told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.

According to the source, a special commission led by First Deputy Prime Minister, Asadullo Ghulomov, left for the site for Sangtuda-1 power plant Monday, December 3, to determine the date of damming the river.  The commission is expected to return to Dushanbe on Wednesday, December 6, the source said, adding that the date of damming the river may be postponed to February next year.  “If the date is postponed, the strict power cutback will be canceled,” the source said.

According to him, bad weather conditions have affected concreting work at the Sangtuda station.
