DUSHANBE, December 13, Asia-Plus - Largest enterprises of Tajikistan’s light industry are standing idle, a source at the Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI) said, linking this to severe power shortages in the republic.
According to him, large joint ventures in northern Tajikistan such as Kabool-Tajik Textiles, Abreshim, Javoni and others have practically not been working since November 23.
Because of electricity shortages a number of textile enterprises in the southern province of Khatlon have also been not in operation since early December.
The source added that damage caused to the country’s industrial enterprises by the electricity supplies cutoff may amount to 16 million somonis per day.
