DUSHANBE, March 14, Asia-Plus - A three-day international meeting of Persian-language media in Dushanbe ended on March 13 with the establishment of a new media association -- International Association of Persian-language Journalists, Adolat Umarova, editor-in-chief of the Dushanbe independent weekly Millat , said.
The meeting that was held on March 11-13 brought together some 60 media representatives from countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uzbekistan.
The meeting participants discussed ways to develop Persian-language media and agreed to create a common website in Cyrilic and Arabic scripts to share information and common ideas among Persian-language media.
The meeting also elected leadership of the newly established International Association of Persian-language Journalists.
Adolat Umarova was elected chairperson of the association. Hasan Bihishtipour from Iran, Saymuddin Doustov from Tajikistan, Manizha Bokhtari from Afghanistan, as well as Afshin Mubasir and Baqer Mouin from the United Kingdom were elected as members of the association’s board.
According to Umarova, they are currently projecting the association’s charter, and “it is still unknown in what country it will be registered.” “The next meeting of Persian-language media will be held in Afghanistan,” the Millat editor said.
