DUSHANBE, February 7, 2011, Asia-Pus -- An international conference entitled “E-Government – Efficient and Innovative Mechanism of Relations between Government and Citizens” will take place in Dushanbe on February 8, according to the tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF-Tajikistan).

Organized by the Council for Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) Affairs under the President of Tajikistan and the Association of Internet Service Providers of Tajikistan under support of OSI/AF-Tajikistan, the conference aims to discuss issues related to promoting strengthening of partnership between the sides for development of an e-government in Tajikistan.

The conference members will consider experience of countries that have made considerable progress in application of ICTs for solving socioeconomic tasks through introduction of elements of the electronic management.

A group of experts from Estonia, India, Russia and some other countries have bee invited to attend the conference.

A number projects on introduction of elements of the e-government at the level of ministries and local authorities have been implemented in Tajikistan in recent years.  Due to joint efforts of government bodies, civil society institutions and international organizations a system of electronic public poll has been created and introduced in eight pilot districts in Tajikistan.

e-Government (short for electronic government, also known as digital government, online government, or connected government) is digital interaction between a government and citizens (G2C), government and businesses (G2B), and between government agencies (G2G). This digital interaction consists of governance, information and communication technology (ICT), business process re-engineering (BPR), and e-citizen at all levels of government (city, state/province, national, and international).

Essentially, the term e-Government refers to how government utilized IT, ICT and other telecommunication technologies, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness in the public sector.
