DUSHANBE, June 13, 2011, Asia-Plus - Last weekend the Agency for State Materials Resources has conducted a series of food fairs in all big cities and regions of the republic, including Jiliqul, Aini, Kuhistoni Mactchoh and Jaloliddin Rumi regions.
According to the agency, the move was initiated by the Government of the country and is aimed to reduce prices for foodstuffs at local markets.
Prices for foodstuffs at these fairs were 20-25% less as compared to market prices.
Thus, the price for one 50kg sack of flour at the food fair that was held on the territory of Dushanbe’s Qarabolo market varied from 120 to 128 Somoni depending on the sort of the product, one kilogram of sugar was sold at a price of 5,5 Somoni, one kilogram of rice – 4 Somoni.
According to the agency, food prices at regional fairs were equal to those which were observed at Dushanbe fairs.
The agency has also said that in accordance with the instructions issued by the Government of the Republic, similar fairs will be conducted in all regions of Tajikistan on a regular basis.
