DUSHANBE, August 7, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Over the first seven months of this year, Tajikistan ahs produced more than 600,000 tons of cement, which was 580,000 tons more than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT).

An official source at a MoINT says the Yovon cement plant (Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd) and Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Tojikcement (Dushanbe cement plant) have produced over the report period 443,000 tons of cement and 120,000 tons of cement respectively.

The Yovon cement plant was introduced into operation in late September last year.  Operated by Tajikistan-China joint venture, Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd, this coal-powered enterprise now produces two types of cement – M-400 and M-500.

Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd was established by Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Co., Ltd, the subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd, and Gayur Limited Liability Company.  Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Investment Co., Ltd assumes the 75% ownership interest and Gayur Limited Liability Company owns 25 percent of the shares in Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd.

The latest technologies were reportedly used to build the Yovon cement plant with annual capacity of one million tons.  The plant meets regional environmental requirements.

“Ten cement plants now operate in Tajikistan and the plan to produce more than 1 million tons of cement this year,” the source said.

Last year, Tajikistan reportedly produced 385,000 tons of cement.

Tajikistan’s annual requirements in cement have sharply increased in connection with construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), highways and other facilities of the nationwide significance.  Current annual requirements of Tajikistan in cement are 1.5 million tons.
