Price increase of gasoline in Tajikistan is firstly connected to an increase in prices for this type of fuel in Russian oil refineries, according to the Head of Natural Monopolies Regulatory Body under the Anti-Monopoly Service of the Republic of Tajikistan, Saidali Zaripov.

He noted that a sudden jump of fuel prices in Russian refineries is observed as of the second half of July.

He said: “For example, if the price for a ton of AI-92 gasoline from Omsk oil refinery was $759 by the time it reached the Tajik border, in June it went up to $799, and in July up to $949, and is currently $1050.”

Mr. Zaripov said that on average gasoline prices for this period rose almost by 38-40 per cent, and in terms of money up to $250 per ton of fuel.”

“Increase in gasoline price is in part provoked by a major accident in the middle of June this year in the Achins oil refinery, owned by a major oil company, Rosneft. The accident had an impact on fuel production in Russia, and as a result the prices rose gas stations in Russia, as well as other countries, including Tajikistan.”

Furthermore, Mr. Zaripov says, world prices for oil have significantly increased, which naturally had an impact on oil prices, including gasoline, in the oil market of Tajikistan.
