DUSHANBE, November 7, 2014, Asia-Plus – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Suma Chakrabarti is expected to visit Tajikistan from November 17-18, 2014.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, this issue was discussed at a meeting of Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov with Mr. Richard Jones, Head of the EBRD Resident Office in Tajikistan, here on November 5.
The two also discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
In Tajikistan, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development focuses on developing the banking sector, municipal infrastructure and small businesses. Bank operations in Tajikistan started in 1992 with technical cooperation, with the first investments in 1996. During this time, the EBRD has concentrated on private sector development, which accounts for over 70 per cent of the Bank’s investment there.
