The International Trade Center (ITC) launches the second Garment Training Center in Tajikistan.
Developed in partnership with the Khujand Branch of the Tajik Technical University named after M. Osimi, the Khujand Garment Training Center at the Khujand Branch of the Tajik Technical University is ready to host students starting from May 24, 2021, according to ITC Tajikistan.
This initiative takes place under ITC’s Global Textile and Clothing Project in Tajikistan, funded by the Government of Switzerland.
The goal of the Khujand Garment Training Center is to enhance and develop core skills required by the country’s garment industry and accordingly to the sector’s moderns’ trends. Garment sewing and computer-aided design operators for pattern making, grading and marker making are among the main activities developed in the center. Students of this new institution have access to the latest equipment and technologies, such as modern sewing machines, computer-aided clothing design (CAD) technologies, GRAFIS version 12, and other equipment.
All the appliances and software were donated to the Khujand Branch of Tajik Technical University and ITC is determined to continue investing and improving the Center’s capacities.
As the apparel industry is constantly changing, the Tajik sector is also required to follow these tendencies. The Garment Training Center comes to fill the gap between the private sector and academia. With the training and technology provided, the center aims to qualify the textiles and clothing workforce. Besides that, the center will play an essential role in enabling more vital collaboration between the industry and the educational institutions in Sughd province.
The Khujand Branch of the Tajik Technical University reportedly intends to develop new teaching materials and adapt existing ones for various skill and knowledge levels with the technical support from ITC, enterprises, and the sector association.
“Knowledge is the key in the business ability to thrive. Modern knowledge is vital for a business to grow from domestic industry to international crossing borders. The ITC’s mission is to connect Tajikistan’s garment sector to regional and global markets and improve their trade intelligence”, adds Saidmumin Kamolov, National Program Manager, ITC in Tajikistan.
ITC Tajikistan noted today that the first course of the center will take place in the coming days.
The Khujand Garment Training Center is the second Garment Training Centre in Tajikistan established by the International Trade Center in partnership with local universities. The Garment Training Center at the Technological University of Tajikistan was founded in Dushanbe last year.
The centers aim to serve as a knowledge hub and bridge between the apparel industry and educational institutions.
The International Trade Center's Global Textiles and Clothing Program (GTEX) is a four-year program funded by the Government of Switzerland. The GTEX program provides support to Textile and Clothing (T&C) companies in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and the Middle East and North Africa (Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia). The program's goal is to promote T&C exports and to stimulate employment and income generation along the value chain.
