IRNA reports that Iran’s Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian has hosted Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma for talks on joint ventures between the two countries.
They reportedly met on February 22, a day ahead of the 13th Governing Board Meeting of the Regional Center on Urban Water Management under the auspices of the UNESCO.
Concerning the Governing Board Meeting of the Regional Center on Urban Water Management, the Iranian minister expressed hope that the meeting would provide an opportunity for further development of ties among member states.
The Tajik minister reportedly also hailed Iran’s achievements in urban water management, saying that other countries can use Iran’s experiences in this regard.
The 13th meeting of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) board of governors took place in Tehran on February 23.
According to IRNA, the ministers of Tajikistan, Iraq, Bangladesh, as well as the deputies and representatives of the water sector of Oman, Qatar, Armenia, Syria, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Turkey, Switzerland, as well as 8 international organizations and institutions attended the meeting.
Promotion of integrated management of water resources at the regional level, transfer of experiences and technical knowledge in the field of integrated management of rivers with the approach of revitalization, re-naturalization and maintenance of their balance conditions were reportedly discussed at the meeting.
The meeting participants also discussed issues related to development of a regional cooperative mechanism in order to adapt urban water systems against climate change.
Regional Center on Urban Water Management (RCUWM-Tehran) was established under the auspices of UNESCO in Tehran in 2022. It is associated with UNESCO through formal agreement approved by the UNESCO General Conference. RCUWM contributes to water-related projects of UNESCO’s strategic program by capacity building, knowledge sharing and research at international and regional levels.
