DUSHANBE/KHUAJND, May 27, Asia-Plus -- A May 26 torrential rain damaged 20 houses in Sughd’s Spitamen district, according to the Sughd emergency management agency.
The Sughd emergencies official also noted that heavy rains had also partially damaged 20 residential buildings in the village of Uyas, Istaravshan district as well. No injured was reported, according to the source.
Heavy rainfalls also caused serious damage to households in Bobojonghafurov and Isfara districts as well as the settlement of Kansai subordinate to the city of Qairoqqum.
In the meantime, according to the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES), heavy rainfalls caused the Qarangul canal to burst and damage the road Khujand-Zafarobod and a bridge on the road Khujand-Istaravshan. This section of the road is currently closed for traffic, the source at a CES said.
In the Isfara district, flooding damaged 4 hectares of areas under corn, 2 hectares of areas under vegetables as well as 10 hectares of orchards.
A special commission is currently working in the disaster sites to assess the actual volume of damage caused to the districts by heavy rainfalls.
