KULOB/DUSHANBE, May 27, Asia-Plus -- Negotiations between the law enforcement authorities and Suhrob Langariyev, the junior brother of Langari Langariyev, of one of former leaders of the pro-government Popular Front Langari Langariyev who was killed in the early 1990s, have failed and firefight resumed at around 4:30 p.m.
Heavy gunfire can be heard from the area around Langariyev’s house, which was cordoned off by police. Residents of nearby houses were evacuated to safe places
Special units of police and security service are involved in the operation, which is carried out by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).
The source at a MoI said that Bobo Salmon, the father of Suhrob Langariyev, had met with his son to persuade him to surrender but failed. “He just, at request of his son, took women and children out of the house,” the MoI source said, noting that it is not clear yet how many persons are now in the house.
Judging by the time of firefight there are a lot of weapons and ammunition in the house, according to him.
According to the MoI source, the 29-year-old Suhrob Langariyev is suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.
In the emantime, according to the Kulob police directorate, Suhrob Langariyev, who is charged with robbery, has been wanted by police for several years.
