KULOB, April 24, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Torrential rain on April 11-13 caused mudflows that reportedly affected 174 households in the Muminobod district, Khatlon province.
Muminobod chairman Safarli Zokirov told Asia-Plus today that the worst hit areas are the villages of Balkhobi, Tutu and Kulchashma. According to him, hundreds of people have been left homeless. “Four households were destroyed completely and 24 households were damaged partially,” Zokirov said, noting that the remaining households are also in a poor state.
Damage caused to the district by this month’s heavy rains and mudflows has been estimated at 1.8 million somoni, the district chairman added.
