DUSHANBE, August 27, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- According to the preliminary estimates, damage caused by recent floods to Ayni district has amounted to more than 1 million somoni, the Ayni chairman Rustam Rahmatov told Asia-Plus today.

Rahmatov noted that automotive communication between Ayni and Kuhistoni Mastchoh districts had been restored and electricity supplies to the disaster-hit villages had been resumed.  “We are currently considering the issue of relocation of families whose houses were completely destroyed by the disaster to Zafarobod district,” said the district administrator, “22 families whose houses were destroyed to the extent of being unsuitable for living will be relocated to Zafarobod.”

We will recall that torrential rain on August 23 caused a series of mudflows in Ayni district, Sughd province.  The most severely affected villages in the district were Putkhin, Sangiston, Zosun, Tomin, Pokhud, Shevatki Poyon, and Rarz.  In the village of Putkhin, the 80-year-old woman, Muyassar Boboyeva, was killed by mudflow.

According to updatable data, 22 houses are destroyed completely while 31 houses are partially damaged and in need of repair.  Besides, floods damaged 6 hectares of farmland, 3 kilometers of roads, and destroyed 4 bridges.  Besides, 40 head of cattle and 15 head of sheep and goats were killed by floods.
