DUSHANBE, September 3, 2010, Asia-Plus -- At least one police officer has been killed and 25 other have been injured in a blast that occurred at the Sughd regional body empowered to combat organized crime in Khujand today morning, Tajik law enforcement authorities say.
Tohir Normatov, the chief of staff of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), told Asia-Plus today afternoon that at least one police officer was killed and one other who was on gate guard duty is reported missing. “It cannot be ruled out that he was killed as well,” Normatov said, noting that 25 police officers were injured.
“Of those injured, 21 police officers are already out of hospital, while four others are still at the hospital,” the MoI official stressed.
He noted that supposedly, there had been two suicide bombers in the explosive-packed car. He added that it could not be ruled out that the suicide car bombers had ties to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU).
