DUSHANBE, September 16, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Another escaped prisoner has been recaptured, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The source at a MoI says Tajik law enforcement authorities captured another escaped prisoner in Vahdat district, some 20 kilometers east of Dushanbe, today. He is Russian national Ali Aliyev convicted under two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 335 (2) – illegal border crossing, and Article 187 (2) – organization of criminal grouping.
Aliyev is one of 25 prisoners that escaped from the pretrial detention facility of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) in Dushanbe on August 23.
In all, Tajik law enforcement authorities have recaptured seven escaped prisoners to this day and the search operation for the remaining 18 escapees is going.
As it had been reported earlier, 25 convicts serving long jail terms escaped from the GKNB-run pretrial detention facility in the early hours of morning of August 23, killing five prison guards. Dressing in camouflage, the escapees reportedly fled toward eastern Tajikistan. The majority of the fugitives were among 46 people convicted by the Supreme Court on August 19 of terrorism, drug trafficking, and seeking the forcible overthrow of the government. The prisoners reportedly took advantage of the negligence of the jail warden.
