Torrential rain on June 4 and 5 caused mudslides and flooding in some regions of Tajikistan.  In the northern Panjakent district, two men were killed by a mudslide.  In Roudaki district, flooding has led to evacuation of residents of one village.

Torrential rain on June 4 caused a mudslide that killed two persons and destroyed one residential building in the Ruzi-Obnok village of Panjakent district tin the northern Sughd province, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.


“The body of one of them was found and the search operation for the body of a 55-year-old man is still under way,” Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee told Asia-Plus Thursday afternoon.  

According to her, torrential rain on June 5 caused mudslide and flooding in the village of Obi Shifo in Roudaki district that led to evacuation of residents of the village.  

The disaster reportedly damaged 80 households as well arable lands and roads.  No injured was reported, according to Yusufi. 

The Emergencies Committee advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.
