According to the latest data from the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, the death toll in Tajikistan’s mudslides has reached 8. 


As of the morning of May 12, torrential rain on May 11 caused mudslides and floods in several districts of the southern province of Khatlon, several districts subordinate to the center, and in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

A mudslide that occurred yesterday in Ergash village of the Bustonqala jamoat in Kushonioyon district of Khatlon province killed local resident, bringing a total number of those killed in yesterday’s mudslides to 8. 


Recall, the Emergencies Committee said yesterday evening that three persons were killed by mudslides in the city of Kulob and three others were killed by mudslides in the Shmasiddin-Shohin district (Khalton province).

Besides, one more person was killed by mudslide in the Hisor district.

According to the latest data from the Emergencies Committee, heavy rains yesterday caused a mudslide in the Sangvor district (Rasht Valley in eastern Tajikistan) that blocked a road in the Labi-Jar area.  The road was cleared of rocks and slurry.  No injured was reported.  


In Nigova and Niyozbegiyon villages in the Rasht district (eastern Tajikistan), mudslides damaged 14 household plots and two auxiliary buildings.  No injured was reported, according to the Emergencies Committee.

In Darai Foni village in the Chorbogh jamoat of the Varzob district, mudslides reportedly swept two cows and Foton truck into the river.  No injured was reported, Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, said.

In GBAO’s Darvoz district, mudslides blocked the Darvoz-Khorog highway near the village of Vishkharv.  The highway has already been cleared of slurry and rocks.  No injured was reported.    

In the city of Kulob, floods reportedly damaged residential buildings located along Zavod and Sadikov streets as well as in Faizobodi Bolo, Pervomay, Rahimzoda and Pashadara mahallas.  


In the Sangtuda jamoat of the Danghara district (Khatlon province), a mudslide partially damaged a bridge on the Danghara-Levakant road.  

In Khuroson, Dousti, and Muminobod districts of Khatlon province, mudslides partially damaged residential buildings, household plots and bridges on rural roads, Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, said.  No injured was reported, according to her.  

The Emergencies Committee warns that risk of further mudslides, floods and rockfalls remains high until May 14.
