KULOB, October 1, Asia-Plus -- Colonel Bahriddin Mouminjonov, the former chief of border unit 2135 deployed in the Kulob region of Khatlon, was arrested last Thursday on suspicion of having been involved in corruption.
The source at the Kulob military prosecutor’s office said that Mouminjonov faced charges of embezzlement of state funds and abuse of office.
“Criminal proceedings against Colonel Mouminjonov were instituted last March and his was dismissed,” said the source, “Economic damage caused by the border officer has mounted to 2,000 somonis. Besides, during the period when he was commanding the border unit, there were cases of death of servicemen and the crime rate in the border unit increased several times.”
The source refrained from giving further details, adding that an investigation is under way.
