DUSHANBE, February 8, Asia-Plus -- A special group, comprising officers from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Prosecutor-General’s Office, has been set up to carry out investigation in to the circumstances of a deadly attack on a special police unit (OMON) in the Rasht district on February.
We will recall that the special police unit commander, Colonel Oleg Zakharchenko, was killed and four servicemen of the unit were injured in the attack.
Bahodour Homidov, an official with the Prosecutor-General’s Office, said the Rasht prosecutor’s office has launched investigation into the attack but since the Rasht prosecutor’s office does not have enough officers to investigate this case, “investigators from the Tajik chief prosecutor’s office have also joined the investigation process.”
The source at a MoI said that the joint group is headed by Nourullo Oripov, the deputy head of the MoI criminal investigation directorate. “The group is currently in Gharm to question persons who were involved in the incident,” the source said. The source refrained from giving further details.
