KULOB, March 14, Asia-Plus -- A procedure of confiscation of property of former Drug Control Agency head Ghaffor Mirzoyev has started in Kulob.
Taghoymurod Jumayev, the head of the Kulob public utilities complex, told Asia-Plus today that Mirzoyev’s property is being confiscated in accordance with a resolution passed by the government.
According to him, three agricultural machines have to date been confiscated from the farming unit belonging to Ghaffor Mirzoyev and transferred to other local farms. “Besides, detached house of Mirzoyev in Kulob and his local bread-baking plant here have also been transferred to jurisdiction of the Kulob mayor’s office,” Jumayev said.
We will recall that the Supreme Court on August 11, 2006 sentenced former Drug Control Agency head Ghaffor Mirzoyev to life in prison for a coup attempt, abuse of office, and murder. Fifteen other defendants received prison terms ranging from 12 to 16 years. Mirzoyev, who maintained his innocence throughout the closed-door case, was arrested in August 2004. Before heading the Drug Control Agency, he had commanded the Presidential Guard. During Tajikistan''s 1992-97 civil war, he was a field commander in the Popular Front.
