KHOROG, April 24, Asia-Plus -- In January-March 2008, 81 crimes have been reported in Gorno Badakhshan, which is six cases fewer than in the same period of last year, Aziz Yatimov, the deputy head of the GBAO police directorate, told a press conference in Khorog on April 23.
He noted that compared to January-March 2007 the crime detection has rate has increased by 10 percent in the region.
“Over the report period, criminal proceedings on 22 crimes have been completed and moved to courts,” Yatimov said.
According to him, 88 firearms have been seized by police officers over the same thee-month period, which is four times more than in the same period of last year. “Over the report period, our officers have seized 25 sub-machine-guns Kalashnikov, 11 pistols, 32 hunting guns, as well as explosive,” the GBAO police directorate deputy chief said.
GBAO police officers have intercepted only 3.8 kilograms of drugs in January-March 2008. “This shows inadequacy of work carried out by us in this direction because enough cases of detention of residents of our region with drugs in other regions of the country have been reported over the mentioned period,” Yatimov said.
