KHUJAND, August 1, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Hofiz Jumayev, head of the department for construction and architecture within the Istaravshan mayor’s office, Sughd province has been detained on suspicion of having been involved in bribery.
Press service of the Sughd anticorruption directorate said that their officers detained Jumayev on July 29 when he was giving bribe form local resident for resolution on allotment of land for housing. Jumayev demanded $3,000 from him for the resolution, the press service said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Jumayev under the provisions of Article 319, Part 4, Points ‘a’ and ‘b’ of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – bribery.
According to the Sughd anticorruption directorate, 121 corruption-related crimes have been registered in the province over the first six months of this year.
