DUSHANBE, February 1, 2015, Asia-Plus -- The leader of the organization Youth for Revival of Tajikistan, Maqsoud Ibrohimov, has been arrested and he is currently being held in one of detention centers in Dushanbe, Rizo Khalifazoda, the head of the Prosecutor-General’s Office Department for Overseeing Police and the Drug Control Agency, told journalists in Dushanbe on January 30.
According to him, criminal proceedings have been instituted against Maqsoud Ibrohimov under the provisions of several article of Tajikistan’s Penal Code and the Interior Ministry investigators are investigating his case.
“To-date, 32 members of the banned Group-24 have been detained and nine criminal proceedings have been instituted against them,” representatives of the Prosecutor-General’s Office noted.
We will recall that a statement released by “Youth for Revival of Tajikistan” says that the organization leader, Maqsoud Ibrohimov, was abducted in Russia on January 20 and illegally transferred to Tajikistan.
The organization “Youth for Revival of Tajikistan” and its leader Maqsoud Ibrohimov first made headlines on November 26, 2014, when unidentified assailants attacked Ibrohimov in Moscow. He reportedly sustained both a gunshot wound and a stab wound.
Maqsoud Ibrohimov is also the member of the Board of the Opposition Coalition “New Tajikistan.” Ibrohimov was reportedly on a blacklist of Tajik authorities for organization of demonstrations of Tajik migrant workers in various Russian cities demanding resignation of the Tajik leadership.
