DUSHANBE, July 1, 2015, Asia-Plus – A senior investigator at the Norak prosecutor’s office faces bribery charge.
According to information posted on the website of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, he demanded 5,000 U.S. dollars from local resident O. in the course of investigation into the case of attempted rape.
On June 16 and 17, the investigator reportedly received 600 U.S. dollars, 1,700 somoni and 3,000 Russian rubles from O.
The investigator was caught red-handed on June 18 while taking 1,000 U.S. dollars from O., according to the anticorruption agency.
Criminal proceedings against the corrupt investigator have been instituted under the provisions of Article 319 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – acceptance of bribe; an investigation is under way.
