DUSHANBE, July 5, 2016, Asia-Plus – Customs officers have reportedly prevented an attempt by Tajik national to illegally deliver a consignment of distribution transformers to Tajikistan from neighboring Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Customs Service press center, R.R., resident of the Spitamen district in the Sughd province, attempted to deliver eight distribution transformers to Tajikistan from Kyrgyzstan without customs documentation.

A total cost of the confiscated distribution transformers is more than 208,000 somoni.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of Article 289 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – smuggling; an investigation is under way.  This article stipulates that such an illegal act is punishable by a fine ranging from 10,000 to 36,000 somoni or by up to five years in prison.
