DUSHANBE, July 7, 2016, Asia-Plus – A Tajik national has been detained at the Dushanbe airport for an attempt to illegally bring nearly 27,000 US dollars with him to Turkey.
According to the Customs Service press center, an inspection of passengers on the Dushanbe-Istanbul flight found 26,900 US dollars hidden in a suitcase of passenger A.Z. This money was reportedly not declared to customs.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of Article 289 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – smuggling; an investigation is under way.
If convicted, A.Z. could face fine up to 36,000 somoni or up to five years in prison.
