The draft law "On Amnesty", proposed on 17 th of August by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, was supported by today, August 24, by the deputies of the lower house of the Parliament of the Republic. The adopted law "On Amnesty" is the 15-th law over the years of independence of Tajikistan.
The law will be applied against the twelve thousand suspects, accused, defendants and convicts. Including more than 3 million individuals will be released from correctional institutions, more than four thousand will be exempt from other penalties not related to deprivation of liberty. It also decreases the term of serving of punishment of the condemned to imprisonment.
This Law also applies to more than 2 thousand persons, criminal cases of which are in manufacture of bodies of inquiry, preliminary investigation or court.
Providing the bill to the deputies at the extraordinary session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan of the fifth convocation, the General Prosecutor of Tajikistan Yusuf Rakhmon noted that the Amnesty will not apply to the persons who committed serious crimes, such as treason, espionage, terrorism, brutal murder.
