Neurologist with the central district hospital in Jaloliddini Balkhi district (Khatlon province) has been detained on suspicion of taking a bribe.
According to the Interior Ministry’s website, he demanded 3,000 somoni from local resident for certificate on changing the disability category.
The physician was reportedly caught red-handed on May 23 while taking the money from the man.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the corrupt physician under the provisions of two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 32 (3) – preparation for crime and criminal attempt; and Article 319 (1) – taking a bribe. An investigation is under way.
