Two policemen have been arrested on suspicion of murder.  They have been detained following testimony of Akmal Alimatov who had been wanted by Dushanbe police since July 17.  

“Two officers of police station in Dushanbe’s Sino district – Alijon Azizzoda and Alisher Safiyev – have been detained in connection with a nightclub killing committed in Dushanbe on July 14,” Umarjon Emomali, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, it is still unknown whether the policemen are involved in the murder or not.  “The prosecutor’s office in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district is investigating this case,” Emomali said. 

Representative of the prosecutor’s office in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni has confirmed information about instituting criminal proceedings against Azizzoda and Safiyev but refrained from giving further details.

Meanwhile Imrouz News newspaper says the policemen are suspected of killing a 33-year-old resident of Kushoniyon district of Khatlon province in Dushanbe’s “VIP” Nightclub on July 14.

Criminal proceedings against them have been instituted under the provisions of Article 104 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – murder.

They have reportedly been arrested at the Tajik-Uzbek following testimony of Akmal Alimatov.

Recall, the 31-year-old Akmal Alimatov had been wanted by Dushanbe police since July 17 on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

According to Imrouz News, Alimatov has come to the prosecutor’s office in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district voluntarily and testified against the police officers.
