A 32-year-old woman from Tajikistan has been detained in Ukraine on suspicion of terrorist activity.

Ukraine’s border service says she was detained at the Odessa airport on January 16.  Verification of the identity of the woman has reportedly revealed that she is on the Interpol database and she is wanted for participation in terrorist organizations.

Ukraine’s border service has reported this fact to the Interpol National Central Bureau in Kyiv.  The border refrained from giving further details of the case.  The identity of the woman detained and details of the charges brought against her have not been released.

As it had been reported earlier, five Tajik women got lengthy jail terms in September and October last year for “fighting as a mercenary in a foreign military conflict.”

According to Radio Ozodi, the women were extradited to Tajikistan from Afghanistan on July 8 last year and in September and October they were sentenced by a court in Dushanbe’s Sino district and a court in Vahdat Township to between 12 and 14 years in prison.

The sentences reportedly followed their conviction on charges of collaborating with IS terror group in Afghanistan.

Farida Majidova, Dilafrouz Rizoyeva and Olima Kamolova were sentenced to 12 years each, while Noziya Arbobova and Nargiza Halimova were sentenced to 14 years I prison each.

Their defense lawyers, the women themselves and their relatives have denied this accusation as absolutely baseless.

The Tajik authorities have not yet provided any information on this subject.
