In the first half of this year, 42 corruption crimes were registered in universities in Tajikistan, for which 12 people were detained. This was reported to Asia-Plus by the Agency for State Financial Control and Anti-Corruption of the republic.

Criminal cases have been initiated on these facts under articles 247 ("Fraud") and 340 ("Forgery, manufacture or sale of forged documents, state awards, stamps, seals, letterheads"). Almost all cases have already been investigated and brought to court.

The agency provided a list of educational institutions indicating the number of crimes and detainees:

- Khujand State University named after Academician Bobodzhan Gafurov 30 crimes, 2 detainees;

- Tajik National University 3 crimes, 3 detainees;

- Dangara State University 3 crimes, 2 detainees;

- Institute of Economics and Trade of the Tajik State University of Commerce in Khujand 2 crimes, 1 detainee.

Four more universities the Tajik State University of Law, Business and Politics, the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Tajikistan, the Pedagogical Institute of Tajikistan in Penjikent and the Tajik State Pedagogical University named after Sadriddin Aini - identified one crime and detained one person each.

Earlier, the Agency for State Financial Control and Anti-Corruption of the Republic of Tatarstan at a press conference named the eight most corrupt areas in the first half of the year. The sphere of education and science was in second place with hundreds of corruption and economic crimes.
