DUSHANBE, February 24, Asia-Plus -- On Thursday February 23, Tajik Ambassador to Belgium Rustamjon Soliyev met in Brussels with Belgian Senator Rick Dams (phonetically spelled), who is Chairman of the Committee of Friendship between the Belgian Senate (one of the two chambers of the bicameral Federal Parliament of Belgium) and the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), the Tajik MFA information department reports.
In the course of the talks, the two considered issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of mutually beneficial inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Belgium.
They also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries in sectors like education, culture, environmental protection, investment, and energy.
Belgian senator, in particular, made special mention of Tajikistan’s key role in addressing modern challenges and threats in the region.
Moreover, Belgian senator supported the necessity of constructing the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan justifying that by the ecological cleanness of electric power that will be generated by the plant and the significance of the Roghun hydroelectricity project for socioeconomic development of Tajikistan and the Central Asian region as a whole, the source said.
Rick Dams reportedly also assessed positively efforts taken by the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) to modernize the Tajik aluminum smelter’s environmental-safety systems.
