DUSHANBE, March 27, 2012, Asia-Plus -- On Monday March 26, President Emomali Rahmon met here with Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali, President, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali arrived in Dushanbe to attend a regional conference on Afghanistan.

According to the presidential press service, the two discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank.

IsDB now reportedly finances eight projects in Tajikistan fro a total amount of 264 million U.S. dollars.

Emomali Rahmon and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali also discussed preparations for the 38th session of the IsDB Board of Governors that is expected tot take place in Dushanbe in 2013, the source said.  

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is a multilateral development financing institution located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  It was founded by the first conference of Finance Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC, now the Organization of Islamic Cooperation), convened on December 18, 1973.  The bank officially began its activities on October 20, 1975. 

The present membership of the Bank consists of 56 countries.  The basic condition for membership is that the prospective member country should be a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), pay its contribution to the capital of the Bank and be willing to accept such terms and conditions as may be decided upon by the IsDB Board of Governors.
